Southern Charm: Kiawah Island & Charleston

South Carolina is home to a couple of the cutest places in the south. My cousin has lived in Charleston for almost a decade so I’ve gone to visit a few times and every time I go, I feel like I’m in another world. I absolutely love the colorful streets filled with great restaurants and colorful sights.

Thanks to my golf loving boyfriend, Jimmy, he informed me of Kiawah Island, SC. It’s a gorgeous golf resort just 45 min away from Charleston so we decided to visit both Kiawah and Charleston!  The resort is called The Sanctuary but we actually stayed at one of the villas instead of the hotel itself, which not only was less expensive but it gave us our own private lodging as well as a quick walk to the beach. We were also still able to enjoy the amenities of the resort so it was the best of both worlds!

We made sure to rent a car for our stay which was the best decision we made.  Although the island had great restaurants, they closed pretty early so we ventured out to Charleston for dinner a couple nights.  However, we did eat at the The Ocean Room in Kiawah, which had the most amazing beach view (and we went right at sunset)!  One of the nights we went into the city, we ate at Amen Street Fish + Raw Bar, which was delicious and we followed it up with a drink at The Rooftop at the Vendue. It was a hot day so the cool breeze along with the beautiful view of the city was a perfect choice!

On the second to last day of our mini getaway, we drove to Charleston to stay at the Francis Marion Hotel. Our view was incredible and it was a perfect quick walk to the main attractions. We did all of our sightseeing during the day while taking little detours here and there such as the famous Rainbow Row and Charleston City Market (which had the best finds)!  We cooled down with some Belgian Gelato and a couple drinks at The Griffon. To our surprise, the entire pub was covered in dollar bills so we had to leave our mark as well!

For our last night, we ate at Coast Bar & Grill, which you have to know about to find because it’s in a cute alley that is a little tricky to locate (but all the more fun)! Coast had so many fun mojito options that we couldn’t get enough of. It was the perfect end to our little vaca and we can’t wait to go back!

  1. […] We fit a ton into our weekend getaway (two days was perfect), but if we were to go back we’d definitely like to check out the beach at Tybee Island. Charleston is only two hours away, so a dual trip is also a potential vacay idea! (If you’re interested in Charleston, check out our blog post about it.) […]
