Springing into DC

It’s that time of year again – cherry blossom season in DC!  Last year, we took a road trip for the weekend since we haven’t been able to explore the city as grown adults so we thought, why not! What better time to go visit our capital than when the cherry blossoms are in bloom? We packed our bags and after a few hours of driving, we began our fun filled weekend!

Day 1: Saturday

We checked into Kimpton Carlyle Hotel Dupont Circle before heading off to brunch a couple blocks away at CIRCA where they had $4 mimosas which was a blessing after the long car ride.  Our brunch was delicious and had something for everyone including Ava do toast, French toast, eggs Benedict & more – highly recommended! After that, we began our educational tour of the city starting with none other than the White House! (we accidentally took pics from the back LOL) We lucked out with the weather, it was 70 degrees and beautiful everyday so we did a lot of walking!  We passed by the Washington Monument and so many gorgeous buildings that led right up to the cherry blossoms! We wanted to take our cherry blossom pics before they went away since this was going to be the last weekend of peak bloom (which is why we made sure to stop near the Tidal Basin on our first day of the trip.  We also visited the beautiful Library of Congress (free!). We attempted to see the Cherry Blossom Pop Up Bar but after waiting in line for an hour with hardly any progress, we decided to ditch the line and visit a rooftop bar instead! There’s a ton in that area so you’re sure to find yourself a good time. We stayed there long enough to fill up on some food and made our way back to the hotel to get changed before going out on the town for the evening! Before dancing the night away at Liberty Tavern, we made sure to grab a good dinner at Tredici Enoteca. Their butternut squash raviolis were to die for!

Day 2: Sunday

Of course our second day in DC had to start with brunch as well!  Founding Fathers was a necessary stop on our list. Our best move was getting peanut butter banana toast for the table – YUM. We could have just eaten that for our meal!  We walked around a little more and indulged in breakfast #2, a cherry blossom donut from Astro Doughnuts which only comes out during the cherry blossom season! We figured after all that sugar, we should probably walk off some of the calories towards The National Gallery of Art (also free!).  Our next stop was the one and only Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool. We had all been here when we were little but it was so amazing to see again. On our way back to the hotel, we made a quick pop stop into the National Air and Space Museum.

There’s so much more to do and see in DC that we didn’t get to fit into 2 days but it’s a great last minute weekend road trip with the girls, especially this pretty time of year! Just remember to pack your walking shoes 🙂
